When engaging in research that may result in the creation of new intellectual property, student researchers should familiarize themselves with university policies on the ownership and transfer of intellectual property and technology.
The University of Texas at Austin defines intellectual property as “any invention, creation, discovery, scientific or technological development, computer software, or other forms of expression of an idea.” Intellectual property originating at UT is governed by the policies of the University of Texas System, and transactions and licensing agreements relating to intellectual property are handled by Discovery to Impact.
