
The Darren Walker Scholars Program held its annual end-of-year celebration April 26 at the Alumni Center's Legends Room. The event recognized current scholarship recipients and welcomed incoming scholars and their parents to the competitive program.
Dr. Richard Reddick, Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate College, delivered the keynote address, with additional remarks from Arleas Upton Kea, incoming Texas Exes President. UT alumni and Advisory Board members Dan Routman and Diana Howard spoke about the program's impact, while current scholar Gabrielle Izu shared her experiences.
April Barnes, director of Academic Experiences, welcomed students and thanked donors and advisory board members whose financial support maintains the scholarship for students across Texas. The gathering marked a significant milestone as the program's first cohort enters their senior year this fall.
Krysta Chacon, assistant director for scholarships and coordinator of the Darren Walker Scholars Program, helped organize the event and will continue to play a vital role in supporting scholars throughout their journey at UT Austin.
The Darren Walker Scholars Program provides incoming freshman with a 4 year merit-based scholarship for their academic excellence, community engagement, and leadership potential.
