BDP students participate in LCCE-Austin City Hall Fellows Program
A unique partnership between the Longhorn Center for Community Engagement (LCCE) and the City of Austin’s Office of the Mayor, the LCCE-Austin City Hall Fellows Program allows students to think and work in interdisciplinary ways to make a difference in the Austin community. Social Entrepreneurship & Non-Profits BDP student awarded Rhodes scholarship
Mikaila Smith, Bridging Disciplines senior, has been awarded a 2017 Rhodes scholarship. She is the first BDP student to achieve this honor. Graduating later this month, Smith is completing the Social Entrepreneurship & Non-Profits BDP certificate with a concentration in Youth & Family. Learn about her plans after UT.
BDP faculty panel chair honored for her work promoting ethics and leadership at UT
Minette “Meme” Drumwright, co-chair of the Faculty Panel for the Ethics & Leadership BDPs and an associate professor of advertising and public relations, was awarded the 2016 Cale McDowell Award for Innovation in Undergraduate Studies for her promotion of ethics and leadership in undergraduate education at The University of Texas at Austin. Ethics & Leadership BDP student explores legal assistance for immigrants
Ethics & Leadership in Law, Politics & Government student Edgar Navarette spent this spring interning with the Equal Justice Center, a non-profit organization assisting low-income workers – regardless of immigration status. His work assisting young undocumented immigrants with the legal process of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) application uncovered his passion for a career in immigration law. Social Inequality, Health & Policy BDP student researches preventative health access
May graduate Sanghwa Park, who earned a BDP certificate in Social Inequality, Health & Policy, spent her spring semester working with Dr. Catherine Cubbin in the UT Center for Social Work Research to evaluate the impact of a Patient Navigation Program focused on access to preventative breast cancer and cervical cancer screening services in rural Texas.
