In the 2000s, Australia experienced several significant political changes at the federal level. New post-material issues like immigration, civil rights, and climate change grew more prominent in political discourse. The Coalition parties, led by Prime Minister John Howard, won control of both legislative chambers from 2004 to 2005, a rare event in Australian politics. In 2008, the Coalition lost power to the Labor Party after serving more than 11 years in government. During this period, voter support for Australia’s traditional major parties continued to decline. It is against this backdrop that this paper examines the legislative success of the Australian Parliament.

I was unfamiliar with the term “post-material” to study these sorts of issues; I was glad to have the chance to learn more about this. Good job! —Rob Reichle
This is interesting research. I wonder how the policies will change, or not going forward, especially with regard refugee and immigration policies in the past 2-3 years. —Megan Offsie
