Whitney Barlow is a speech-language pathology senior who has conducted undergraduate research on stuttering and brain activity that accompanies the learning of new sounds.
She presented her stuttering research last year at the Longhorn Research Bazaar, one of the campus-wide exhibitions of student scholarly and creative activity that takes place during Research Week. This year, her work as a research assistant has shifted focus from clinical applications to the electroencephalography of sound learning, which has introduced her to methods used in the neurosciences.
Whitney has been recognized for her work as a recipient of an Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the Office of the Vice President for Research. In addition to contributing to research in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Whitney is a participant of the Intellectual Entrepreneurship Pre-grad Internship program and works as a student associate in the School of Undergraduate Studies.
