Cockrell School of Engineering
The Engineering Student Services (ESS) office offers a variety of services to engineering students. Please contact our office at (512) 471-4321 or visit the ESS portable at 24th and Speedway for answers about policies, procedures, support services and programs.
College of Education
The College of Education offers FIGs for students who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development (ALD) or a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
Applied Learning and Development
The teaching profession offers a variety of opportunities and demands high levels of personal and professional skill. Being a successful teacher or educator involves the ability to work effectively with people, possession of a sense of service to others, academic competence, and professional commitment. Students participating in a FIG will have an opportunity to develop these skills. Each FIG cluster offers required classes that fulfill degree requirements. Additionally, the FIG facilitator and peer mentor will help participants create a strong connection to the university, faculty, and staff.

Kinesiology & Health Education
These FIGs will help you discover how vast the opportunities are for kinesiology and health majors. Our FIGs explore the wide range of professional programs and careers kinesiology and health majors are pursuing. Each FIG cluster offers required classes that fulfill degree requirements. Additionally, the FIG facilitator and peer mentor will help participants create a strong connection to the university, faculty, and staff. College of Fine Arts
Attention Fine Arts students new to UT Austin! First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs) in the College of Fine Arts seek to create and foster collaborative student communities formed around majors and shared interests. The FIG seminar will introduce you to a variety of fine arts and campus resources and help you build lasting connections to peers, faculty, and staff. FIGs are offered in art, arts & entertainment technology, music, and theatre & dance. Information about FIG registration will be provided at the College of Fine Arts meetings during summer freshman orientation. College of Liberal Arts
First-year students who enroll in College of Liberal Arts (COLA) FIGs will have fun while transitioning to UT Austin. All of the courses in COLA FIGs satisfy requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree. Information on how to enroll in a FIG will be shared during orientation. College of Natural Sciences
FIGs in Natural Sciences provide prospective scientists the opportunity to meet one another, learn more about issues facing science in the 21st century, and develop strategies for being successful at UT Austin. There are FIGs for all majors, as well as FIGs for students who have not chosen a major. You will find out at orientation if you have been placed into a FIG. For more information, visit this page.
Jackson School of Geosciences
The Jackson School of Geosciences First-Year Interest Groups provide homes for new students: small groups within a large school within a larger university. Weekly seminars will focus on strategies for success in college and current research in Geosciences. Students will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and other students, participate in school functions, make friends, and learn about the resources a small school in a large university has to offer. School of Nursing
Welcome to UT and the School of Nursing! By joining a nursing FIG, you will be joining a fun, collaborative community of soon-to-be nurses! A FIG will help you feel at home in your new surroundings and allow you to explore and discuss topics that interest you. The FIG seminar will introduce you to a variety of nursing and campus resources and help you build lasting connections to peers, faculty, and staff. You will also learn study strategies, and FIG courses will help put you on a road to success in nursing.
