Texas Success Initiative (TSI)

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state mandate requiring all incoming students to be assessed in math, reading, and writing. If you're not exempt, you’ll need to take the TSI Assessment (TSIA) and submit your scores to UT Austin before Orientation.

The TSI program has two main components:

  1. An assessment to evaluate your skills in math, reading, and writing.

  2. Developmental instruction to strengthen any areas needing improvement, based on your TSIA scores.

Important: Your TSI status does not affect your admission to UT Austin. If you’ve been admitted and have been informed that you have a TSI hold, please follow the steps in the Start Here.
