The degree plan of every undergraduate student at The University of Texas at Austin includes several components: Core Curriculum and Flag requirements, major requirements, and electives. Together, these components produce self-reliant graduates who will become leaders in their chosen professions and communities.
The Core Curriculum represents a university-wide commitment to general education, incorporating the perspectives of an array of academic disciplines and including courses taught by faculty members from every college and school. Courses taken in residence and through University Extension (UEX) must be taken for a letter grade in order to satisfy a Core Curriculum requirement. (Exceptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic: Spring 2020 coursework completed in residence and UEX coursework and on a pass/fail grading basis may apply to the Core Curriculum. A total of up to three in residence and UEX courses taken on a pass/fail grading basis over the combined fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters may apply to the Core Curriculum.)
