Maisyn – one year old
What is your favorite thing about being a student with a dependent at UT?
Being able to safely include my daughter in my academic experience. She loves waving at my professors and classmates through Zoom. Her favorite class is Spanish.
What is the most challenging thing about being a student with a dependent?
Finding balance in school and home life. Sometimes I feel like there is not enough time in the day for me to be a good mom and a good student.
What advice would you give to a student with dependents applying to UT?
Do it. You belong here. Your journey may look different from other people’s, but you are no less deserving of an excellent education.
What has been your favorite class so far?
I’ve loved every class I’ve taken in the Spanish department.
If you had one tip for students with dependents, what would it be?
Ask for help. Being a parenting student is not easy, and there is no shame in using your resources.
What is one thing you cannot live without as a parent?
Coffee.
What was Maisyn’s first word?
We’re still working on real words, but we love to wave and say “Ah!”
What is your favorite thing about being a Longhorn?
I love being a part of such a big and proud community – there are Longhorns all over the world.
What are your plans for after graduation?
Become a licensed social worker.
