Housing and Getting Around Austin

Figuring out where you will live and how you will get around Austin can be stressful, but there are resources at UT Austin to help you get settled in the city.

Housing

Living on campus can help you build a stronger sense of community, get more involved, and make new friends. You are able to apply prior to being admitted, though you will only be eligible for a contract offer once you have accepted your enrollment offer and satisfied the university’s enrollment deposit. If you live off campus, check out this safety guide and the Off-Campus Living Resources, which include an apartment finder, guides, and events.

Student Legal Services can help with certain tenant/landlord disputes if you need legal advice regarding an off-campus rental. Austin Tenants’ Council can also help you understand your rights and responsibilities when renting a property off campus.

Getting Around Austin

If you live off campus, you can utilize the city’s Capital Metro bus system to get to campus. Any Cap Metro bus is free to ride with a valid UT student ID. All students can use the bus system to go grocery shopping, visit downtown, and explore Austin.

If you have a car you would like to drive to campus, UT Austin’s Parking and Transportation Services has all the information you will need to know on parking options. Bringing a bike to campus? PTS’s BikeUT program registers your bike for security and offers air pumps and other tools at bike stations across campus.
