Writing Flag Faculty Retreat
Tuesday and Wednesday, December 5 and 6, 2023, mornings, in person
Faculty teaching or preparing to teach, Writing Flag courses are invited to participate in a virtual two-day School of Undergraduate Studies workshop on December 5-6, 2023.
Retreat participants will:
- revise current Writing Flag classes or develop new ones
- create syllabi, assignments, and feedback strategies that foster student writing skills
- review pedagogical best practices including peer review, minimal marking, and rubric design
Ethics Flag Coffee Conversation

An informal gathering intended to connect instructors teaching in similar Flag areas across campus, answer questions about the Flags, and share ideas about teaching. We hope to see you there! on November 15th, 2023.

Independent Inquiry Flag Faculty Retreat: Structuring the Semester for Student Success
Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24 and 25, 2022, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., plus independent work sessions
Faculty currently teaching, preparing to teach, or with interest in adding an Independent Inquiry Flag course to an existing course are invited to a virtual two-day School of Undergraduate Studies workshop on May 24- 25, 2022.
This workshop is designed to:
- build instructors’ skills and confidence in student-centered approaches to teaching
- enable participants to learn from, and foster relationships with, colleagues from other disciplines
- enhance understanding about how to identify, scaffold, and assess assignments that support the independent inquiry process
The retreat will meet via Zoom over two days, with each day consisting of presentations, discussion, and group activities in the mornings and independent work in the afternoon. The Independent Inquiry Flag Coordinator will be available on campus during the afternoons for questions and follow-up.
Participation is limited to twelve faculty members, who must commit to attending both days. Participants will receive $1000 in professional development funds.
