Discuss your general career path since graduating from UT.
After graduating in 2005, I worked for a year as a therapist for children with autism. I was accepted into graduate school at UT in Special Education with a dual specialization in Early Childhood Intervention and Autism and Developmental Disabilities. I continued in the program to complete my Ph.D. in 2013.
How did your BDP experience influence your career path and interests?
My BDP introduced me to Early Childhood Intervention and allowed me to take classes in Special Education where I was connected with the professors who led me to the path of becoming a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. I am truly grateful for all the amazing mentors I met along the way. One of my professors from the BDP program, Dr. Echols, sat on my dissertation committee.
What do you value most about your BDP experience?
I valued the connections I made with professors from other disciplines and the friendships I made in the program with other students. I am still connected with my fellow BDP students and it’s amazing to see where their paths have led.
In what ways did an interdisciplinary education prepare you for what you are currently doing?
I work in multidisciplinary teams regularly. My background knowledge from psychology, human development, and special education helps me to connect with professionals from those fields.
