The purpose of the flag for Cultural Diversity in the United States is to increase students’ familiarity with the variety and richness of the American cultural experience. To that end, courses carrying this flag ask students to explore the beliefs, practices, and histories of at least one cultural group that has faced persistent marginalization, with the goal of encouraging students to reflect on their own cultural experiences.
Once the flags have been fully implemented, all undergraduates will be required to earn credit for at least one course flagged for Cultural Diversity. Information on requirements for individual degree programs can be found in the current Undergraduate Catalog.
