The Boren Fellowship provides up to $25,000 for overseas study in a language of security interest to the U.S. Additional funding for domestic language study may be acquired. See the Boren site for more information about eligible study areas and application materials.
Conditions of Eligibility
You are eligible for a Boren Fellowship for graduate study if you are:
- A U.S. citizen at the time of application
- Matriculated for the duration of their Boren Awards-funded program in an undergraduate or graduate degree program located within the United States and accredited by a body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
- Planning an overseas program that meets home institution standards in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Boren Fellowships are not for study in the U.S.
- Planning to study in a country of which they are not a citizen
- (For ROTC cadets and midshipmen and members of the military Reserves or National Guard) In inactive, non-drilling status for the duration of their Boren Awards-funded program

- Transcripts from all colleges or universities where a degree was obtained

Application Deadline
Students interested in the Boren should contact ODPS by mid-fall before the national application deadline to consult on appropriate plans of study. The national deadlines for graduate and undergraduate applications usually fall in late January/early February. Please consult the Boren website for details.
